The budget for 2008-09 released yesterday received mixed reactions from the recipient industries. Mr Mirza Azizul Islam, Finance and Planning Adviser proposed a further reduction in the present concessionary rate of duty on import of capital machinery and spare parts from 5 to 3 percent.
Mr Mirza also proposed a reduction of import duty on basic raw materials from 10 to 7 percent and an additional 3 percent decrease on intermediate raw materials bringing it from 15 to 12 percent. Besides, the Finance Minister also provided for bonded warehouse facilities to all 100 percent export oriented industries along with an allocation of Tk1,050 crore as export subsidy.
However, the duty on finished products which was considerably high at 25 percent remained unchanged for the budget 2008-09. Industrialists in readymade garment and machinery sector were particularly appreciative of the new budget.

The capital city of Azerbaijan is holding RE-Invest Caspian International Exhibition from today that is expected to attract a huge global attention. This kind of expo is held for the first time in Baku, and is organized jointly by GTZ (German Technical Assistance) and Corporate Solution from Germany.
The aim behind holding this two-day event is to help the regional traders build direct contact with specialized sellers of used machinery. Around 100 German nearly 50 local enterprises are participating in the trade fair.
All the companies are showcasing their equipments related to textile and ready to wear cloth production.

InterLegProm-2008, an international exhibition for the light industry commenced on June 7 and will conclude tomorrow at Dushanbe. The expo is jointly organized by Government of Tajikistan, Chamber of Commerce and Industries, Ministry of Energy and Industries and the Republican Committee of Trade Unions for Employees of Textile and Light Industry.
This is for the third consecutive year that the nation is holding this global fair where more than 25 companies from nations like Russia, Turkey, Tajikistan, Iran, and Kazakhstan are showcasing their products. A wide range of items from sectors like textile, garments, shoes and carpets are generating lot of interest among interested buyers.
A roundtable conference is also organized along with exhibition for discussing diverse prospects and opportunities for using local raw materials in the best possible manner.
With every passing year the number of participants is augmenting at InterLegProm, as this fair provides opportunity to international buyers and sellers to come face to face and venture into new business deals.

An extensive exhibitor survey has now confirmed the indications that were apparent when TV, International Trade Fair for Textile Finishing and Promotion, was last held in Stuttgart: the majority of exhibitors and the exhibitor advisory panel are in favour of a change in the day sequence.
The Sunday, which no longer attracts so many visitors, will therefore be dispensed with at the next event, which means that the trade fair will commence one day earlier than in the past. TV Textilveredlung & Promotion will therefore next be staged in Stuttgart from Thursday, 4 to Saturday, 6 February 2010.
The opening time on the last day will be extended by one hour so that proprietors of smaller companies will also have an opportunity to visit the trade fair without having to close their business. Textile printers, transfer printers, digital printers, flockers, embroiderers and experts from the textile areas of promotion and merchandising will therefore be able to obtain information on the latest products and services in their industries on all three days of TV from 09.00 to 18.00.
