Machinery Investment Enhances Clariant Customer Service Capabilities

A facility that consolidates Clariant’s leading application services and expertise for customers in the technical textile sector was formally launched at the Customer Service Centre in Kolshet, Thane, India.

A continuous coating machine, made by Werner Mathis AG, Switzerland, along with a lamination facility, has been installed by Clariant Chemicals (India) Limited to enhance its services to customers and increase its ability to meet the needs of the growing coatings market in India.

The new machine makes it possible to have control over various parameters such as the addon, drying time and also finishing time. It will be beneficial in technical-oriented coatings as well as in fashion-oriented coatings.

The investment means that new developments will be possible at Clariant’s Customer Service Centre on all types of substrates with different dimensions and applications. Some of the major applications are:

• Foam coating on denim
• Pigment coating
• Black outs
• Upholstery
• Shower curtains
• Sheen coating

The coating machine will enable Clariant to imitate customers’ production processes for trialing or problem-solving and will also help in demonstrating new products and developments.

The state-of-the-art coating machine underpins Clariant’s position as a supplier of the full range of dyes and chemicals for all aspects of coatings. It brings the company's coloration and finishing facilities and know-how under one roof, a feature that is attractive to customers because they can discuss the whole chain in coatings production at one place and with one company.

Important Factors That Affect the Textile Finishing

Methods of wet application of finishes on fabrics are mostly either by exhaustion techniques or by padding concentrated solution and depend on the substrate and the feasibility of adopting either of the processes. Applications by foam applicator by spray techniques are common in the case of made up garments.

Whereas padding method of application is feasible for all softeners, exhaust method of application is possible only where the softener has good substantivity. However high substantivity could cause tailing in a pad box application and requires to be controlled - discussed under padding method of application.

Softeners are the most employed finishing agents either by themselves or along with other body builders/modifiers. Majority of the softeners are cationic. Cationic reactive softeners based on amino silicones play very important role to provide the lubricity to facilitate better sewability and also permanency to the finish.

The fabric substrate pH, the stability of the bath pH, the ionic character of the residual chemicals that may be left behind from the previous treatment, incomplete or variation in drying, yellowness, high TDS/ hardness can all influence different finishes differently.

Wear & Tear Of A Spinning Front Line Rubber Cot

Wear & Tear of a Spinning Front Line Rubber Cot and Factors Affecting it in Terms of Usage, Abrasion Resistance of That Rubber Compound, Traverse Length, Traverse Rate, Shore a Hardness, Top Arm Loading, Fibre Volume Handled and Frictional Properties of the Processed Material

Abstract

In general yarn quality is influenced by:

  • Quality of raw material
  • Opening & cleaning operations at Blow room & Carding
  • Speeds & Settings kept at various stages of yarn production and its functions.
  • Process control techniques and parameters kept at spinning
  • Humidification, (temperature and humidity)
  • Labour force training and their skills.
  • Maintenance of production equipment and vital components.

Drafting components have a significant influence on yarn quality and production costs in ring spinning. Especially spinning top roller covers i.e., cots and drafting aprons. These are the main components of the drafting mechanism and certainly it has more influence on the quality of the yarn produced. Apart from above mentioned factors that decide ultimate quality of yarn there are other factors which has a major influence on yarn quality like shore a hardness of rubber cot used, wear out rate of the cot in traverse area, abrasion resistance of the rubber compound and other parameters kept at spinning.

Turkish Carpet Industry Invests In French Machinery

The production of traditional and modern style carpets in the fast growing Turkish city of Gaziantep is about 300 millions square meters in 2008. The process includes state of the art spinning and weaving machines, much of them from France.

Gaziantep, the Turkish cluster for carpet manufacturing - Turkey has a long tradition of carpet craftsmanship. In the South-East of the country, a little more than one hour fly from Istanbul, close to the Syrian border, a 1 million people city, Gaziantep, has grown to become the capital of the machine made carpet industry. Modern housing and manufacturing plants are built at such a speed that the city looks really different every few months.

The textile industry and particularly the carpet manufacturing are responsible for a good part of this exceptional growth explains I.Yalçin Konukoglu, the President of the Gaziantep carpet makers Association.

He explains “in Gaziantep and its close vicinity, there are 189 carpet mills which employ directly or indirectly more than 30 000 employees. These mills represent more than 80% of the Turkish carpet industry and 70% of them are vertically integrated, they spin their own yarns and weave the carpets. Not long ago they were running about 3 000 locally made weaving machines, less than 200 are still in use but 650 modern weaving machines have been erected giving the area an annual capacity of 300 millions square meters.”

President Konukoglu analyses the success of these companies, small or big: “their entrepreneurship spirit with a clear and consistent strategy to go after the mass market worldwide, offer good quality, maintain low production costs and sell at reasonable profits; follow the fashion trends on the different markets worldwide”. One main trend has been the shaggy carpets (long hair), it is here in Gaziantep that it has been developed.
