Import Scenario of Chinese Textile Machinery Industry

2007 was year of great success for Chinese textile machinery market. In this year machinery manufacturer experienced orders pouring and the market witnessed attention of world focusing on Chinese machinery. Many leading machinery manufacturers chose China for expanding their production base and established their manufacturing Unit in China. Oerlikon is one of those companies who selected china for their Asian manufacturing hub who believed China is one of the highest promising markets in Asia considering the fact that China accounted for 17% of total 37% of Oerlikon's sales in Asia in the first nine months of 2007.

China imported textile machinery worth 4 billion USD in the year 2007 as textile industry of China went for modernization. Main export destinations were Japan and Europe. Main import market for textile machineries were provinces like Jiangsu, Zhejiang and Guangdong which accounted for 71% of the China's overall imports.

Customs Statistics revealed that in the first half of this year, total imports of textile machinery together with other machineries reached US $2.38 billion, a growth of 4.7 percent over the same period last year. Of this, June imports marked $410 million, an increase of 11.1 percent.

Textile machinery imports in general trade fetched $1.4 billion, an increase of 3.6 percent a drop of 54.2 percentage points in growth rate, accounting for 58.8 percent of the total imports made by China in the first six months of this year. Moreover, equipment imports under investment by foreign-invested enterprises scored $680 million, down 1.4 percent and accounting for 28.6 percent of the total.

In the period under review, textile machinery imports by foreign invested enterprises amounted to $1.07 billion, an increase of 3.5 percent over the corresponding period last year and commanding 45 percent of China's total textile machinery imports. On the contrary, imports made by the private sector fell by 0.8 percent to $620 million while those made by state-owned enterprises plunged by 0.1 percent to $490 million.

Individually, textile machinery imports of Zhejiang stood at $550 million representing an increase of 8.5 percent, while those of Jiangsu and Guangdong stood at $510 million and $420 million marking a decline of 17.3 and 15.3 percent respectively. Together, the three provinces accounted for 62.2 percent of the total textile machinery imports.

They were so impressed with Cambridge's architectural mesh panels, that they specified them for their own use. The panels were able to perform all of the necessary functions while meeting the architect's forwardthinking design needs.

A Cambridge Solucent woven metal fabric shading system inventively adorns the expansive windows and concrete exterior of 116 University Avenue, angled to reduce the southern to western setting sun exposure. The result is a breathtaking architectural element which reduces solar heat gain, optimizes daylighting and makes the building exterior stand out – especially through its interplay with the setting California sun.

“116 University Avenue is a building that sticks in your memory,” says Heather Collins, Director of Marketing for Cambridge Architectural. “Our mesh was chosen not only because it created such a unique design, but because underneath it all, the building interior benefits from lower cooling costs and improved occupant performance.”

The project team was immediately drawn to architectural mesh for 116 University Avenue because of its flexibility in both design and function. The texture and overall physical nature of the material served both of these purposes.

“Cambridge's mesh veils and highlights the structure,” says Joseph Bellomo, Principal of Joseph Bellomo Architects, the architect of the project. “It also reduces solar heat gain and blocks about 50% of the sunlight and glare coming through the windows, without blocking the views out of those windows.”

VDMA ends its cooperation with Koelnmesse

A few days after the end of IMB 2009 — which was evaluated positively by exhibitors and visitors alike and has provided the strong stimuli the sector needs during the current economic crisis — the trade fair's conceptual sponsor, the German Garment and Leather Technology Association of the VDMA (German Engineering Federation), ended its cooperation with Koelnmesse.

IMB – World of Textile Processing – has taken place in Cologne for 35 years now, and in its most recent form it was held every three years.

Gerald Böse, Chief Executive Officer of Koelnmesse GmbH, was sorry to hear of this one-sided decision to end the partnership. "It's very difficult to understand this decision, especially right now," he said.

“In spite of the difficult overall economic situation, Koelnmesse organized a very satisfactory event. IMB 2009 succeeded in mobilizing the international industry and at the same time supporting German manufacturers in their international business activities in a sustainable way. I believe that the event's unique market position as a leading independent European trade fair for textile processing, as well as its worldwide reputation, have now been seriously put at risk."

Attractive Market For Advanced Textile Machinery

On occasion of the International Technical Textile Symposium from April 14 to 17 in Taipei, seven member companies of the VDMA Textile Machinery Association will present their latest solutions “Made in Germany” to Taiwanese textile industry professionals.

The participating German companies are well-known technology providers for the textile industries around the world: Sahm, Oerlikon Saurer (Allma product line), Karl Mayer, Dornier, Mayer & Cie., Herzog and LIBA. An Overview about the product range in machines for technical textiles of VDMA members will be given during a presentation of the VDMA Textile Machinery Association.

Since Taiwan has focused on research and development of highly technical textiles, the country is an attractive market especially for advanced textile technologies. In order to deepen the cooperation in this sector, the VDMA Textile Machinery Association and the Taiwan Technical Textiles Association (TTTA) had signed a memorandum of understanding two years ago.

Together with Japan, Germany is by far the most important supplier of textile machinery to Taiwan. Like many other textile industries in the world, the Taiwanese one had to face a downturn last year, which resulted in a lower demand for machinery.

In 2008 the exports of German textile machinery and accessories to Taiwan decreased by 28 percent compared to 2007and reached 34 million Euro. With exports worth 17 million Euros, the highest demand was registered for knitting and hosiery machinery. The exports of spinning machinery amounted to 9 million Euros. The export figure of finishing machinery reached 5 million that of weaving machinery 3 million Euro.

Knitting Specialists On The Trail Of New Products

Conference of the members of the German section of the International Federation of Knitting Specialists at KARL MAYER and Frankfurt-am-Main Airport, 25-26.05.2009

On 25 and 26 May the German section of the International Federation of Knitting Technologists (IFKT) will invite its members to its annual conference and assembly. It will be hosted by KARL MAYER Textilmaschinenfabrik in Obertshausen.

On the first day of the conference the tasks facing the assembled knitting specialists will include electing a committee for the period 2009 to 2012 as well as considering the usual committee and auditors' reports.

The first president, Chris Wilkens, will not stand for a further period in office. The remaining committee members will put themselves up for re-election. To round off the first part of the conference in the modern KARL MAYER there will be a report on the 44th International Congress which was held from 23 to 27 September 2008 in St Petersburg.

The members' conference will be followed immediately by a series of reports with the emphasis on technical textiles. Professor Marcus O. Weber will present a paper from the Niederrhein Technical University on the theme 'Measurement and evaluation of the yarn tension in stitch formation'. Dr Uwe Moehring, from the Thueringen-Vogtland Textile Research Institute, will present the results of his research work.
